Description
Rachel Adams has a secret. While the other girls in Baalboden sew dresses and obey their male Protectors, Rachel knows how to survive in the wilderness and deftly wield a sword. When her father, Jared, fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the city's brutal Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector, her father's apprentice, Logan - the same boy Rachel declared her love for two years ago, and the same one who handed her heart right back to her. Left with nothing but a fierce belief in her father's survival, Rachel decides to find him herself. But what awaits her in the Wasteland could destroy her.Logan McEntire is many things. Orphan. Outcast. Inventor. As apprentice to the city's top courier, Logan is focused on learning his trade so he can escape the tyranny of Baalboden. But his plan never included being responsible for his mentor's daughter. Logan is determined to protect her but soon realizes he has more at stake than disappointing Jared.
As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can't be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.
My thoughts
I love this book! This book doesn't waste any time and throws you right into the story. Already in the first chapter I can feel my heart skip a beat, even though I knew that it would happen because it was in the synapses. This level of excitement doesn’t stay the same through the hole book, but it got its ups en downs.
I fell quickly in love with the characters and I like it that they have complete different personalities. Rachel is impulsive and Logan approaches his problems with logic. I also like it that you read it from both Rachel’s and Logan’s perspective.
The romance was well-paced en believable. But I do have to admit that I am a sucker for love story’s so maybe I’m a little bias.
I thought that the post-apocalyptic-world could be explained more, but it was enough for the story and I think we will learn more about the world in the next book.
I can't wait for the next book.
