Description

In this third book in Marissa Meyer's bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they're plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and prevent her army from invading Earth.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl trapped on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she's being forced to work for Queen Levana, and she's just received orders to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is splintered. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a higher price than she'd ever expected. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai, especially the cyborg mechanic. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has

My thoughts

Cress is very naive. She doesn’t know a lot of the world because she has never been a part of the world. She is a lot different than Cinder or Scarlet. Marissa Meyer is good in writing these different characters. Some writers write for a lot of different characters but when you read their chapters, they sound all the same. This is not the case with Marissa Meyer. I love how different all the characters are and how they interact with each other.

The other books contain key elements of their fairy tales, but I have to admit that I’m not familiar with the original story of Rapunzel. So I can’t say anything about that.

The story continues but Kai has no idea what was going on, he’s been out of the loop since the end of book one and I feel bad for him. He is a bit lost and try’s to fix everything by himself.
I feel like Scarlet got a smaller part in this book than the rest, because of this we also saw a different side of Wolf which wasn’t his best side. I felt like Cinder was trying to be more of a leader than in the other books. She kept her emotions bottled up and concentrated more on the mission. But I feel an explosion of emotions is coming.
I liked Thorne a bit better in this book. He is sarcastic and doesn’t take everything so serious. But in this book he was put in positions where he needed to be a bit more serious to get out alive. It was a side of him we hadn’t seen much. He isn’t perfect but this book would be really boring if he was. All these characters have flows which make them more real.

We also get a few new characters introduced. My first impression of Winter wasn’t that great. I thought she was kind of weird. We also meet Jacin, he’s not the nicest guy, but I feel like we just don’t get to know him well enough to know his motives. The same can be said of Winter. I guess we’ll find out in Winter or Fairest.
